International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Perioperative Cognition and Delirium PIA Paper of the Year!
Congratulations to Michael Devinney, MD, PhD who’s publication ‘Role of Blood-Brain Barrier Dysfunction in Delirium following Non-cardiac Surgery in Older Adults’ was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Publication of the Year Award! The publication evaluates blood brain barrier dysfunction as a potential mechanism underlying delirium, which may shed light on the link between delirium episodes and subsequent risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
Congratulations to Dr. Jeffrey Petrella, MD for making headlines!
Dr. Petrella’s radiology study using AI with MRI to predict PET outcomes was featured online in RSNA News! RSNA News highlights the research being done in brain imaging to support Alzheimer’s disease and dementia diagnosis and treatment.
Learning Opportunity
Duke Scholars in Molecular Medicine (DSMM) Program – accepting applications now!
DSMM is open to all graduate students who have passed their prelim exams and PhD-trained postdoctoral fellows. The program runs from September through May and requires a commitment of ~6–8 hours each month.
Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year are open until June 10th

This issue will celebrate the foundational importance and ongoing impact of key programs in Alzheimer’s disease research, highlighting contributions in the era of emerging biomarkers, disease-modifying treatments, advanced digital tools, and computational methodologies. The scope is broad, reflecting the goals, impacts, and future directions of each of these programs.
