2025 Call for Pilot Proposals Request for Applications

Overview & Goals

Significant brain health disparities exist among Asian and Pacific American older adults, including
disparities in risk factors, clinical detection, stigma and linguistically/culturally appropriate care for the person with the illness and his/her family caregivers. The Resource Center for Alzheimer’s and
Dementia Research in Asian and Pacific Americans (RCASIA) is funded by the NIH to generate
sharable resources for studies of Asian and Pacific Americans on the diagnosis and care of
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (AD/ADRD), and to help train the next generation of Early Career Investigators (ESIs) in AD/ADRD-related Behavioral, Social, and Economic Research (see Application Instructions for details).

Pilot Project Awards (up to $50,000 each) will support collaborative projects conducting innovative
research that focuses on the intersection of AD/ADRD-related psychosocial risk factors,
detection, and health outcomes involving older Asian Americans (research comparing Asian and non-Asian older adults also qualifies). This research can span the social science disciplines of cohort studies, health services research, development and pilot studies of culturally appropriate interventions.

Projects can focus on primary data collection or secondary data analyses. This year, RCASIA
will focus on projects including Southeast Asian subgroups. We especially encourage
comparative study between Southeast Asian and non-Southeast Asian (Asian or non-Asian)
populations. Projects which focus purely on biological mechanisms and outcomes (e.g., GWAS,
protein biomarkers, cellular/animal models) will not be eligible.

Eligibility

• Advanced post-doctoral fellows or junior faculty who are interested in becoming independent investigators and pursuing health research related to AD/ADRD.
• Each Scientist must have a Primary Mentor at their home institution.
• Investigators who previously or currently receive NIH R01 level or equivalent funding are not eligible.
• Scientists from R2 Universities in the NYC/NJ area are strongly encouraged to apply.
