Congratulations to Shih-Hsiu “Jerry” Wang, PhD, who recently secured a highly competitive Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant (AARG) grant to study the role of vascular dysfunction in LATE, LATE-AD, and FTLD-TDP
In this grant proposal, Jerry will continue work with Drs. Andrew Yang and Simon Gregory to understand the molecular changes associated with these conditions through VINE-seq and Xenium spatial profiling
Jerry serves as the Core Leader of the Duke-UNC ADRC’s Neuropathology Core.
Well Deserved!
Workshops & Learning Opportunity
NIA Hybrid Workshop: APOE Genetics as a Major Determinant of AD Pathobiology
September 5-6, 2024
Duke/UNC ADRC ORE Core
This workshop will bring together lead investigators in APOE genetics and related fields to discuss APOE4 as a toxic gain-of-function molecule associated with the pathobiology of Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). Experts in the field will address:
- Genetics related to APOE4 – consideration of different genetic populations and protective variants
- APOE-mediated mechanisms of disease
- New technologies and moving towards APOE4-targeting therapeutics
- Brainstorming session where key questions will be addressed
The outcome of the workshop will be a collection of principles by which the AD/ADRD field of genetics and related research areas can best proceed to leverage existing information on APOE in the etiology of AD/ADRD.
